I had cats, so you must understand where I am coming from. As newborn kittens, so delicate, so cute. They need you, and they train and follow easily.
At least mine did. Until they matured and realised, they could find their way to the kitchen counter, that the sofa was softer, and that my food tasted better.
Suddenly I found myself competing with my pet for leadership. It was like she was the boss and I was the pet. She was even bringing me dead lizards for breakfast.
When I clean and mopped them up, Missy would just go for another kill.
At first I thought yelling and tantrums would help, but I quickly figured that firm but calm, strategically planned assertive leadership is a form of communication that works better. And even cats respond better to it.
Have you found yourself in that situation? You’re a new mom, new pet owner, new office boss but just don’t quite feel like you’re the one in charge here?
