Why Constant Learning is the Secret of Great Parenting

What makes a teacher great?

Every person learns differently. Constant learning means you always discover how different people learn and new teaching methods to respond to them.

Shared moments are an excellent teaching tool

Parenting involves constant learning and teaching. The first point of learning for every child is their parent. A great parent has the ability to adapt their teaching style and plan to each child’s needs.

Think about how different each child is and brainstorm ways to appeal to their learning capacity.

Teach at Special Moments

Shared moments are an excellent teaching tool. Take advantage of joint activities you both enjoy. Some children are more expressive while they draw, others while strolling or playing at the park. Sometimes it could be times you’re in the car, at a game or on a road trip.

My favourite place is the beach, breezy and peaceful. Find the right spot for you both and make the best of the moment.

Teach by Listening

Listen actively to your child’s expressions. Both verbal and non-verbal expressions give you crucial insight into what your child is feeling and how they respond to you.

There is no point insisting on your way if your child has formed a mental barrier to you. Break the barrier first by listening. Listen for why your child reacts the way they do and what other solutions may resolve your differences.

Teach by Doing

Be honest. No one likes a hypocrite, so live by the values you teach your child. Answer questions honestly. Including sensitive questions like why you’re a solo parent or where the other parent is.

Of course, you should let your child know some issues are more serious than others and can be life changing. Explain what such issues are and share your answers to the most sensitive questions in an honest, dignified way.

Parenting is not easy, so do expect some bumps on the way. But like every road bump, you shouldn’t crash in and damage your car. Slow down, negotiate a turn or rise above the bump, and slowly role down before continuing on your way.
